Caixa Capital received the award for Best Ecosystem Contribution of the Year from Microsoft Portugal in an event that counted with the presence of Portugal's President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Portugal's Secretary of State for Industry, João Vasconcelos, and Microsoft Portugal´s General Manager, João Couto, as well as leaders from the Portuguese startup ecosystem.
The award was presented in the context of Ativar Portugal, an event that brought together members of the Portuguese Startup ecosystem, including startups, incubators, accelerators, and VCs, with the mission to build successful, world-class companies. This year´s Ativar Portugal event focused on Internationalization – a key issue for the success of Portuguese startups.
The award for Best Ecosystem Contribution of the Year was presented to Caixa Capital by Portuguese Secretary of State for Industry, João Vasconcelos, and General Manager of Microsoft Portugal, João Couto. The prize for Startup of the Year went to Portuguese startup Talkdesk, and was presented by Portugal´s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Portugal has vast potential regarding startup development. A study by the Startup Europe Partnership points to the vitality of the Portuguese startup ecosystem: by 2015 the Portuguese ecosystem already had 40 scaleups, that is, startups with an investment of at least one million dollars in the last five years. To date, Portuguese scaleups have already raised over € 166 million in venture capital investment, with the number expected to rise in the coming years.
